Frequently Asked Questions

How should I burn my wooden wick candle?

It is important to always allow the wax to melt all the way across the surface of the candle to prevent tunneling. This may take anywhere from 2 to up to four hours depending on the environment of your candle. Failure to do so may cause your candle to burn unevenly, otherwise known as tunneling. Coconut Apricot Creme wax burns better and hotter over time, so if you don’t get a full melt pool after four hours, extinguish the candle, allow it to re-set, trim the wick to 1/4” and light again for up to four hours.

Why is my candle tunneling?

Tunneling occurs when a candle burns straight down from the initial flame, building a 'tunnel' in the wax. Tunneling can be caused by an inadequate amount of initial burn time. It is suggested that on the first burn you allow the melted wax pool to reach the edge of the vessel to create an even surface for your candle to burn from. This process should take approximately 2 hours, and up to four hours.

How long should I burn my candle?

It is recommended to burn your candle until a full melt pool (liquid wax) has formed. This will ensure an even burn and maximize the life of your candle. If a full melt pool has not been achieved after 4 hours of burning, extinguish the candle and trim the wick to 1/4 inch before relighting.

How do I trim the wick?

It is recommended that you keep your wick trimmed to approximately 1/4” long at all times. You can trim your wooden wicks with a wick trimmer, pair of scissors or nail clippers. After cooling, you can also pinch the extended wick off with your fingers. You will want to remove any excess burnt material from around the tip of your wick before lighting again. Otherwise you might notice discoloration of your candle wax as a result of the burnt material falling into the candle wax.

Why is my candle making a noise?

The crackling sound is normal and is a result of the natural burning wood wick. No worries— that’s one of the best parts!

How do I extinguish my candle?

Never blow out a candle, as this can cause soot to form on the rim of the vessel. Extinguish your candle using a lid, snuffer, or by drowning the wick in the liquid wax.

Can I reuse my candle vessel?

ABSOLUTELY! We strongly encourage you to repurpose your vessel. Our vessels are meant to be reused once you’ve burned your candle all the way through. For suggestions on ways to repurpose your vessel check out our blog post here.

How do I clean my candle vessel?

When approximately 1/4” of wax remains use a spoon to scoop out the remaining wax, wick, and wick clip and wipe out any excess wax. Wash the vessel out with warm soapy water.

*Pro Tip* rubbing alcohol helps to remove excess wax and residue.

Now you can refill your vessel with whatever you like. If you need tips on different ways you can repurpose your vessel, check out our blog post for some creative ideas!

General Candle Safety Tips:

  • Keep your candle out of direct sunlight or florescent light, which may case fading or discoloration.
  • Place your candle on a level surface away from drafts, vents, fans, etc. This helps to prevent uneven burning and “tunneling”.
  • Allow your candle to cool completely before handling or relocating to avoid wax spills.
  • Keep your candle out of reach from small children and pets.
  • When not in use, use a lid to prevent dust collection.
  • Burn in sight. Never burn a candle on or near anything that can catch fire.
